"High mortality in Bulgaria is a big problem. Our country tops the EU ranking in terms of this indicator, and at times it tops the global mortality ranking. However, we have not made an in-depth analysis to solve this problem", Dr. Mimi Vitkova, former Minister of Health, said in an interview for the BNR.

"The lengthy political instability in our country probably made the former authorities in charge of this country‘s healthcare think that their term of office was too short to make a detailed analysis of the problem", Mimi Vitkova said. "Countries whose healthcare systems were well structured and organized before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic are coping much better" Mimi Vitkova went on to say.
