The placement of a chip in the new ID cards will be optional, the Minister of Electronic Government Bozhidar Bozhanov has told BNR.
"Even when something is recorded there, it will only be an anonymous identifier. There will be no personal data as the data are in centralized registers. Some skepticism about technology exists but I do not expect that many people would reject this option," Bozhanov commented
At the moment, the citizen is a courier of the administration, the minister says. That is why the ministry would work for reducing the number of paper certificates. Work will also be done to create an accessible electronic identification without the need for an electronic signature, Bozhanov added.
