The deployment of additional NATO troops in Bulgaria and Romania would lead to an undesirable increase in tensions in the region, Defense Minister Stefan Yanev commented on Facebook. "Such a debate, respectively - an approach, has the potential to lead to an undesirable increase in tensions in the region. Moreover, at this stage there are no grounds to consider the observed processes as a direct threat to the Alliance," the minister wrote.

Yanev notes that the increase in Russia's military potential and activities on NATO's eastern flank are circumstances that must be monitored and that "the Bulgarian state is ready to increase the capacity of its own national forces on its territory in the context of allied capabilities."
