The French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clement Beaune expressed confidence that Bulgaria would lift its veto over the start of negotiations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the EU. Beaune met in Sofia with Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and President Rumen Radev. He visited Bulgaria to present the priorities of the French EU presidency.

Regarding Bulgaria's membership in Schengen, Bonn said that reforms in the Schengen area itself should be carried out first, and only then should new members be admitted. He expressed hope that reforms would take place in the coming months.
From 1 January, Paris will take over the EU presidency, prioritizing social policy and the minimum wage, climate, energy prices, defence and security, and migration policy.
