Alexander and Victoria - the most preferred names for newborns in Bulgaria in 2021

The most preferred names for newborn babies in Bulgaria in 2021 were Alexander and Victoria, data of the National Statistical Institute shows.

Among the newborn boys, along with the traditional names Georgi, Dimitar, Ivan and Kaloyan, names such as Martin, Daniel and Victor, which are not typical for the Bulgarian tradition, predominate. Increasingly, the names of Bulgarian rulers are given such as Boris, Simeon, Samuil and others. 

The most common Muslim names for boys in 2021 are Mert and Emir.

For 6 years now, the top three most common names for girls in Bulgaria are Victoria, Maria and Nicole. In 2021, right after them are the female names Raya and Sophia

The most common Muslim names for girls are Elif and Celine.
