Two secondary school students win prize for developing biodegradable mask

Two students from the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Secondary School in Yambol won a Bulgarian Academy of Sciences’ student institute prize for developing a biodegradable protective face mask out of rice paper and with hemp straps.

The idea for the mask was provoked by global pollution, with tons of disposable polyester masks being thrown away, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Stefania Lazarova and Alexander Kabranski told BNR’s correspondent Daniela Kostova.
