What is happening in Bulgaria is a real tragedy. In the second year of the pandemic, more than 23,000 lives were lost, three times as many as in the first year of the pandemic. You should not have allowed this, because there were already high-quality vaccines that were delivered, said to BNT Dr. Skender Sila, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Bulgaria.

The booster dose provides more than an 80% reduction in the risk of hospitalization when infected, said Sila and called on elderly citizens, people with chronic illnesses and teaching staff to get immunized.

The expert said that he was working with the Minister of Health on a strategy to persuade Bulgarians to get vaccinated, which, in his opinion, should be a voluntary act.
