Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev must resign and take responsibility for his actions, the parliamentary group of the ruling We Continue the Change party stated in a declaration read out in plenary, citing as motives the fact there are no accountability mechanisms for the prosecutor general, as well as the consistently low levels of trust in the prosecutor general, and a number of critical reports by the EU.
The political declaration, read out in plenary, constitutes gross interference in the independent judiciary, the administration of the prosecutor’s office responded.
Ivan Geshev himself described the move by the ruling party as “crisis PR”. The opposition GERB party stated that “declarations are not the way to put through a judicial reform, bills are”, but that no such bills have been submitted.
