"Bulgarians in Ukraine are important to us,” Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska stated at a briefing at Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry with a focus on international issues.

Minister Genchovska stated that the Foreign Ministry is in daily contact with our embassy and the consulate in Ukraine, and that there have been no requests for evacuation so far. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister added that the question has also been discussed with our partners from the EU and NATO and that they can provide logistics if the need arises. “We must start evacuating our people simultaneously, if the need arises,” Minister Genchovska said, and added that she has discussed these plans with Defence Minister Stefan Yanev, as well as the option of carrying out such an evacuation with our own resources. Minister Teodora Genchovska also commented on the possibility of the EU foreign ministers visiting Kiev as soon as is possible as an ongoing diplomatic effort to ease tension.
