Bulgaria reports the first case of coinfection between type A influenza and Covid-19

A case of coinfection between influenza A (H3N2) and SARS-CoV-2 has been found for the first time in Bulgaria. A child from the town of Yambol (Southeastern Bulgaria) tested positive for flu and Covid-19.

The National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases detected 9 cases of type A influenza in children between 11 and 18.

The National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases made a whole genome sequencing of 234 positive samples of SARS-CoV-2. 55.1% of the samples have been proven to be of the Omicron coronavirus variant and 44.9%- from the Delta variant or one of its sub-variants. The samples were taken between January 3 and January 13 in 30 hospitals in 21 Bulgarian districts.
