Supreme Administrative Court declares some of the sanctions under the Magnitsky Act null and void

Parts of the Bulgarian list of companies sanctioned under the US global Magnitsky Act are null and void, two three-member panels of the Supreme Administrative Court ruled. The reason is that there is no Bulgarian law on sanctions arising from American law, and that a decision by a third country authority will not be recognized in the EU.

The two administrative cases were filed on complaints from Irena Krasteva, the mother of Magnitsky-sanctioned MP Delyan Peevski, and Internews 98 with partners Elena Dineva, the wife of Dubai fugitive businessman Vasil Bozhkov, and Nove Internal.
The SAC has initiated a total of 62 cases on complaints of persons affected by the sanctions under the Magnitsky Act.
