10 years after deadly flood in Biser, investigation continues

In the church of "Sts. Cyril and Methodius” in the village of Biser near Harmanli, a prayer was held in memory of the residents who lost their lives in the flood that happened 10 years ago when the wall of Ivanovo Dam broke and the water destroyed 56 houses and took the lives of 10 people.

According to the people from the village, the tragedy could have been prevented if the municipality of Harmanli had alarmed about the broken dam wall in time, as it took 45 minutes for the water to reach Biser.

The investigation into the causes of the tragedy continues to this day. Haskovo is one of the five districts in the country where assessment of potentially dangerous dams is not over yet, BNR correspondent Dora Atanasova has reported.
