An ancient helmet, taken out of the country illegally has been returned to Bulgaria.

Maya Hristova, Consul-General of Bulgaria in New York thanked the US services for their successful investigation. The return of the valuable artefact was made possible after an operation headed by the office of the District Attorney of New York with the participation of the services of 11 countries: Bulgaria, Egypt, Greece, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Turkey.

The helmet, worth around USD 200,000, was confiscated from the collection of one of the world’s leading collectors of ancient art. The helmet, found near Satovcha in Bulgaria, is dated to the 4th-3rd century BC. It is made out of iron, silver and bronze. There is speculation among American experts that it may have belonged to Philip of Macedon.
