Bulgarian-born skeleton racer competing for Canada sets skeleton record at Olympics

Bulgarian-born Mirela Rahneva, who competes for Canada, set a record in skeleton racing at the Olympics in Beijing, clocking 1:02.03 in the first leg. In the second leg she made several errors and finished 18th, which puts her in 9th position in the temporary rankings.

Mirela Rahneva was born in 1988 in Ruse, Bulgaria, her father is a gymnast and her mother an elite sprinter. The family emigrated to Canada in 1997. She started competing in skeleton in 2012 and has been part of the Canadian national team since 2016.
