Bulgaria is the EU member state with the highest number of prosecutors per capita and the highest ratio of government spending on prosecution to gross domestic product, Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova said in connection with the decision of the government to cut the budget of the prosecution by EUR 10 million. Earlier on Thursday, Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev said that the reduction of the budget of the country’s judiciary, which was proposed between the first and the second reading of the 2022 state budget, is an encroachment on justice and human rights.
