Urgent measures at European level are needed to overcome the crisis on the agricultural and food markets in Bulgaria, said Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ivan Hristanov during the Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries in Brussels, the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food informed.
Ivan Hristanov pointed out that the increase in the prices of basic feed crops and mixtures, fuel, electricity, as well as basic fertilizers used in crop production was a matter of concern.
According to him, many sectors, including livestock farmers, are failing to cover their costs and this requires a comprehensive approach to agriculture, health and the environment.
Ivan Hristanov stressed the importance of ensuring a genuinely level playing field between domestic and foreign products by applying common standards and conditions to the production of these goods.
In the discussion on the draft regulation related to deforestation and forest degradation, the Deputy Minister has noted that the legislative proposal introduces extremely high requirements for traders and operators as well as for all competent authorities.
