As the holiday of Baba Marta approaches on March 1, streets in Bulgaria are bustling with vendors of martenitsas, the traditional red-and-white adornments made of yarn.


Bulgarians love to purchase martenitsas and give them as gifts to loved ones for health and blessings on the eve of spring.
