The reason we are here is to give a strong message for our guarantees, State Department spokesperson Ned Price told BNR in answer to the question whether reinforcement of NATO forces in Bulgaria had been discussed at the NATO foreign ministers' meeting.

Ned Price confirmed the Alliance’s commitment to Article 5 (an attack on one country is an attack on all others). It is like a sacred pledge and is as important today as it was when the pact was created, Mr Price assured.

"We are taking steps to ensure that and we will continue to act on that," he said, referring to statements by the US president and the secretary of war on the measures being taken. The spokesman recalled Joe Biden's words that NATO would fight for every inch of the Alliance's territory.
