More than 38,000 Ukrainian citizens have entered Bulgaria since February 24, while only 100 applications for humanitarian aid have been submitted at the Bulgarian border so far.
According to the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees, 60-70% of Ukrainian citizens cross the border only to continue their journey to other countries of their preference.
There are currently around 21 000 Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war on Bulgarian territory.
The implementation of the European Temporary Protection Directive is expected to come into force in Bulgaria and Ukrainian citizens will have the right to seek asylum both on the territory of Bulgaria and in other EU countries.
