Bulgaria will change the macroeconomic framework of the state budget because of the war in Ukraine, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev said. The government is plannning to set aside buffers to cope with the refugee wave.

"This is a large group of people and more than half of the refugees entering Bulgaria are children. This requires a lot of care and financial resource”, Assen Vassilev said.

Minister Vassilev added that before the start of the war in Ukraine, Bulgaria’s government had developed an action plan, should Russian gas stop flowing into the country. The cabinet is also working on worse scenarios should the conflict spill over into other countries, for example Moldova. "Inflation will continue to accelerate due to the consequences stemming from the war in Ukraine", Asen Vassilev said further.
