Ukraine war: Evacuation of civilians continues

Bulgarian citizens were evacuated from Berdyansk along the front line. The evacuation was completed successfully, although it was quite difficult, Anton Markov, head of the Situation Center at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said for bTV. 

On Tuesday, around 20,000 drove out of Mariupol in private cars along the humanitarian corridor, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. However, there is no information as to whether Ukrainian Bulgarians living in the port city were among them.

Trains with Ukrainian refugees continue to arrive in Bucharest, Ivaylo Marinov, Head of Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Romania, said for the BNT. Currently, no Bulgarians are waiting on the border. The Ukrainians heading for Bulgaria have relatives there. However, there are also many asylum seekers. Ivaylo Marinov advised the volunteers wishing to help refugees to contact the Foreign Ministry’s Situation Center first and wait at the Bulgarian border.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said peace talks with Russia were beginning to sound more realistic, but time was still needed to reach a compromise. Talks will continue on March 16. Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu is expected to visit Moscow today.
