According to the prosecution and the Ministry of Interior, it has become clear that Prime Minister Kiril Petkov is a witness in the investigation launched against former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. The case has been launched over extortion. It has not been announced who the blackmailed person was, but Deputy Prime Minister Assen Vassilev has already said that this was Vasil Bozhkov, who is in Dubai.

It would be known later whether Borissov, former minister Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova would be charged and released or their detention would be extended. It was reported that the crime was allegedly committed in the period from 2014 to December 2019 and the prosecutor's office was informed that Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova were detained for 24 hours. A statement from the Prosecutor's Office said that by 12:30 the case was not filed in the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.

The notification of pre-trial proceedings initiated by the Ministry of Interior, as well as the legal qualification indicated in it, exclude the competence of the European Prosecutor's Office in this case, the press center of the Ministry of Interior reported. A supervising prosecutor has not been appointed yet. After this happens, it would become clear whether charges would be brought against Borissov, Goranov and Arnaudova, as well as what measure of restraint would be imposed on them.
