On April 12, the Supreme Judicial Council will decide whether to terminate the term of office of Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, it has become clear at a meeting of the institution. The SJC accepted as admissible five of the grounds cited by the Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova, three were partially accepted and one was rejected as inadmissible.
Just before the sitting of the Supreme Judicial Council to discuss the early termination of his term of office, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev called the demand by Justice Minister Nadezhda Yordanova for his removal from office “a legal naught”.
According to Ivan Geshev, the only explanation for such a procedure was “to bring the prosecutor’s office under control and to use it to pursue illicit political objectives”.
In response, Minister Yordanova described his words as “an absolutely false claim”, and stated it was an attempt to shift the focus from the main problem which is that nobody in the country can be untouchable.
