Bulgarian Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev asked the Constitutional Court to cancel the closure of the Specialized Criminal Court and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, which was adopted by Parliament. The arguments state that the reappointment of magistrates is an infringement on the independence of the judiciary and violates the principle of separation of powers. The transfer of Specialized Court cases to other bodies threatens legal security, the Attorney General stressed.

Geshev has also asked the Constitutional Court to abolish socialist provisions in the 1947 Penal Code, according to which "people who do not perform socially useful work or earn their money through prostitution and begging" are subject to imprisonment or probation.
