EU expects Sofia to lift its veto over membership talks with Skopje by June

After three weeks, I am back in Sofia to find common ground and support in Bulgaria to start the negotiation process with North Macedonia in June. This is what  EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi wrote on Twitter during his visit to Sofia on May 19 when he met with President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska.

I appreciate the open dialogue with President Radev. For the EU the importance of having a stable and prosperous neighbouring Western Balkans can’t be overestimated, the commissioner also wrote.
