Bulgaria’s Premier Kiril Petkov will take part in an extraordinary meeting of the European Council in Brussels on May 30 and 31, the Council of Ministers announced. The European Council will discuss the situation in Ukraine, EU security and defense, as well as energy and food security. A video conference call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is envisaged.

The EU leaders will discuss the European Commission’s plan REPowerEU which aims to make the EU independent from Russian fossil fuels as soon as possible.

It is a priority for the Bulgarian government to ensure Bulgaria’s energy security via diversification of energy sources and supply routes.
