The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission is ready to introduce block rate tariffs for electricity, heating and water. As a result, consumption below a certain threshold will be charged at a lower rate, whereas consumption above these thresholds will be charged at higher rates. Thus, we will be able to better address energy poverty. However, we need the approval of the country’s National Assembly to adopt such a measure, the Chairman of the energy watchdog Stanislav Todorov said for the BNR.

"There will be clarity about prices when another long-term contract for the supply of natural gas is signed. It is very expensive to buy on the month-ahead and day-ahead market", Stanislav Todorov said. Europe is experiencing the biggest energy crisis in 40 years. However, household consumers in Bulgaria pay the lowest prices, Stanislav Todorov went on to say.
