Bulgaria may join the euro zone in 2024, but needs to change its laws

The state budget update will be submitted to parliament next week, Finance Minister Assen Vassilev said in parliament. 

He affirmed that according to Brussels' assessment, the euro could be adopted in Bulgaria by early 2024, but that the country needs to amend more than 100 laws, including the Bulgarian National Bank law, in order to synchronise them with eurozone legislation. 
The second important condition is to meet the inflation criteria. Vassilev pointed out that inflation in Bulgaria is moving ahead of other EU countries because energy and food, which are experiencing serious price increases, have a larger share in the consumer basket than in other European countries.
