Truck throughput capacity at Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border checkpoints with Turkey will be increased within a week. This is the commitment the Bulgarian state is assuming, Minister of Transport Nikolay Sabev announced after holding meetings with Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Trade Tuna Turagay, representatives of the authorities in Edirne and the Turkish customs authorities.
The number of trucks coming in from Turkey and processed at Kapitan Andreevo should go up to 2,000, and at Lesovo – to 1,000. For the purpose additional customs and border police staff are to be posted there.
Minister Sabev did not meet with the protesting haulers who blocked traffic at the border, only letting it through on the hour. The protest is over the queues of heavy trucks forming after the state took over phytosanitary control at the border.
