France’s President Emmanuel Macron is ready to meet with the authorities from Bulgaria and from North Macedonia in Paris at an opportune moment so they can conclude a bilateral agreement, the presidential office has announced.

According to the announcement, Emmanuel Macron spoke by telephone with his Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Radev on 6 June, and with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovačevski within the frameworks of the efforts the French Presidency of the Council of the EU has been making in recent weeks to support the search for a solution to the dispute between the two countries and to help make North Macedonia’s European perspective a reality.

“We do not aim to interfere in the conversation between Sofia and Skopje. We are not exerting any pressure. Our role is to facilitate the discussions, to propose solutions which, if possible, both sides will agree to,” stated on her part France’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Florence Robine in an interview with TV1.

In Sadovo, where he paid a visit to inspect the damages inflicted by the hailstorm, PM Kiril Petkov commented that Sofia would not do anything under pressure.

“What we are trying to do is to see whether Bulgaria’s wishes and Bulgaria’s needs, support for Bulgarians in North Macedonia can be guaranteed via the European process,” PM Petkov said.
