University lecturers from 5 Bulgarian universities are calling for the adoption of a national strategy for Bulgarian language. Lecturers from the University of Veliko Tarnovo adopted a declaration with 11 requests related to Bulgarian studies and Bulgarian language.

Lecturers from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, the University of Plovdiv, Sofia University, the University of Shumen and the Southwestern University in Blagoevgrad insist that the national strategy for the Bulgarian language puts in place uniform training standards for university lecturers and differentiates between the concepts of pedagogue, teacher and specialist in Bulgarian language. They are also calling for the introduction of mandatory language competence for state employees and the creation of a national index of scientific publications related to Bulgarian studies and Bulgarian language.
