The National Electricity Company will be able to sell part of the equipment located at the construction site of the Belene NPP to Kozloduy NPP, by a decision made by the Council of Ministers at its sitting today.

The equipment in question includes filters, ventilators and other elements important to the implementation of the programmes for the extension of the lifespan of reactors 5 and 6 at Kozloduy NPP. The programmes require a supply of spare parts for repairs and new equipment for maintenance. The equipment stored at the Belene NPP site is analogical to the equipment in use at Kozloduy NPP and is interchangeable, the decision reads.

Bulgaria halted the project for a second nuclear power plant at Belene in 2013, and in 2016 the International Court of Artbitration ruled that the country should pay the Russian company Rosatom EUR 670 million for the equipment manufactured for the future nuclear power station at Belene.
