A total of BGN 10.8 million under the National Polar Research Program will be used to finance research in the region of Antarctica and the Arctic, the press center of Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science announced. Apart from the support for the research projects, the development of a university master's program dedicated to polar research is expected, which will attract young scientists to develop their careers in this field.

The financing of the activities under the program will be at the expense of the funds for science in the national budget and will be carried out through the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The coordinator of the program is the National Center for Polar Research at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, and partners are the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, the Institute of Forestry at BAS, the National Museum of Natural History and others.
