Increased police presence near Bulgarian parliament

Debates in the National Assembly on the motion of no confidence against the cabinet continue as there is increased presence of police and gendarmerie forces with heavy equipment near the parliament. Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov said signals for provocations had been received during protests in front of parliament. "If we did not expect escalation, there would be no such police presence around the building.

We have taken necessary measures to prevent anti-social behavior," he said. The perimeter of the fences around the National Assembly has been widened. Later in the day, two parallel rallies will be held there - one of citizens supporting the government and one of the nationalist Vazrazhdane party, pushing for early elections.
