New Omicron sub-variant is already in Bulgaria

A sub-variant of Omicron called BA.5 is already circulating in Bulgaria. The World Health Organization said the strain is a cause for concern, the Ministry of Health reported. It carries a mutation that makes the coronavirus more contagious and can help it partially evade immune response. So far, seven tests have shown the presence of the virus in the country - 6 in Sofia and 1 in Kyustendil. 50% rise in the number of patients with Covid-19 was reported in the past week. The 14-day incidence in the country is 57 per 100,000 people.
