Bulgaria’s Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva called for urgent measures against the free use of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas ( happy gas) by children and teenagers. "Laughing gas is often used in discos and clubs. Many children have been affected, especially after mixing nitrous oxide with drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, it is sold freely and legally", Ombudsman Kovacheva points out. In her words, countries such as Ireland and Denmark have already restricted the sale of nitrous oxide.
Bulgaria’s Ombudsman has received a lot of complaints from parents and organizations. Ombudsman Kovacheva has referred them to the country’s Minister of Health, the Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Health and the Chairman of the Commission for Consumer Protection.
