As of 1 January, 2023, the minimum salary will be calculated on the basis of a formula, instead of being calculated administratively.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Policy presented, to businesses and TUs, three different options of the mechanism – that the minimum salary constitute 50% of the average salary for the country for the previous year; that it constitute 49-51% of the average salary; that it constitute 50% to 45%, depending on the economic growth. The proposals are in the spirit of the expected European directive on fair incomes. According to employers, the minimum salary should constitute 60% of the average salary for the country.
The minimum monthly salary is now EUR 363. With all three options it should reach no less than EUR 426, though that will mean it will still remain the lowest within the EU.
