Bulgaria’s outgoing Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov has notified Gemcorp Holdings Ltd and IP3 of the termination, by mutual consent, of the non-binding memorandum of understanding that was signed between Bulgaria and the two companies on March 23, 2022. This was announced by Energy Minister Nikolov at today's meeting of the outgoing cabinet. The document provided for cooperation on projects for alternative and strategic gas supplies, development of nuclear energy and production of clean energy.

The memorandum was signed after the visit of a high-level Bulgarian delegation in the United States in March. However, according to western media, one of the companies is connected to Russian oligarchs. The government terminated the memorandum on 20 July. This would not entail payments for Bulgaria, outgoing Premier Kiril Petkov said in a TV interview.
