The caretaker government has asked for a two-week deferral from the US company Cheniere before signing a contract with it for the delivery of LNG, caretaker Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov said in an interview with bTV.

The previous government of PM Kiril Petkov had a preliminary agreement for the delivery of seven tankers of LNG for the period from October 2022 until April 2023. According to Rosen Hristov, the deferral is necessary so as to reserve additional capacity at an LNG regasification terminal, though he did not specify whether the facilities in question are in Greece or in Turkey.

“The caretaker cabinet is also considering the option of resuming gas deliveries from Russia’s Gazprom,” Minister Hristov said, and added that Bulgaria will not digress from the EU sanctions imposed on Russia.
