The two more seriously injured children in yesterday's serious accident with a Serbian bus on Bulgaria's Trakia highway were transferred this morning from the hospital in Stara Zagora to the capital's Pirogov emergency care hospital. One child is undergoing surgery at the moment, the condition of the other has improved, the caretaker Minister of Health Asen Medzhidiev announced at a briefing.

5 ambulances with 7 children travelled to Serbia. At the border, medical teams from Serbia were waiting for them to take them to local medical facilities.
Children who did not require medical treatment also left for their homeland.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Stara Zagora has charged the 40-year-old Serbian driver of the bus with causing moderate bodily harm due to negligence. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

No bumps in the road or other obstacles were found to cause the bus to deviate. Human error due to distraction is the leading version for the cause of the crash.

In an interview with BNR, Vladimir Todorov from the Association of Accident Victims noted that recent serious bus accidents indicate a problem with the infrastructure. He asked why there was no guardrail at the crash site.

"According to the current regulations, if we have a highway, there must be guardrails on both sides of the highway," said Todorov.
