Five people have been arrested after the serious incident in Burgas this morning, in which two police officers died, the Ministry of the Interior announced. A Syrian citizen was detained immediately after the incident. Later, two more Syrian citizens were detained, as well as two Bulgarians.

Two police officers were killed as they tried to stop a bus transporting illegal migrants in Burgas this morning. Just before 5 AM this morning, a bus with Turkish registration plates failed to stop at two consecutive border police checkpoints in the vicinity of a roundabout, entered the bike lane and ploughed into the police car and a bus stop, Interior Ministry deputy chief secretary Stanimir Stanev said for the BNR.

The bus was transporting 48 migrants, including women and children. None of them were hurt. Burgas police director Chief Commissioner Kaloyan Kaloyanov, police, firefighters and ambulances arrived on the scene.
