Deyan Mollov, deputy director of General Directorate Border Police, has resigned. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev demanded his resignation after the Burgas incident, in which a bus of illegal migrants killed two policemen. Mollov's resignation was over his failure to deal with migrant pressure. According to the minister, the main reason for the serious incident was the inefficient performance of the Border Police.
"It was not the police authorities in Burgas who had to intercept a bus with 47 migrants. These persons should have been stopped at the state border," Demerdzhiev said. At the beginning of the caretaker cabinet's term, Mollov was downgraded from director of the Border Police to deputy director in charge of deterring migrant pressure.
In Burgas today commandos honoured the memory of the deceased officers with a silent vigil at the crash site. Many Burgas residents also left flowers. Mourning vigils in memory of the policemen were also held in many other cities of the country.
