Refugees often seek assistance from locals on the border with Serbia

Refugees daily reside in Trekliansko, Kyustendil district, Western Bulgaria, on their way to Serbia. Most often they are spotted in the area of the villages of Gorni and Dolni Koriten, seeking the assistance of the local people. Until recently, they passed through a gorge to Bosilegrad across the border. However, the Border Police increased the security in this section and therefore they were diverted by another route, local residents commented.

The aim of the refugees is to reach Bosilegrad, where for years there has been a well-equipped refugee camp in which entire families are accommodated. From there they go to Western Europe.
Since the beginning of the year, the District Court in Kyustendil has issued more than 80 sentences for foreigners who tried to illegally cross the border with Serbia, mostly in the Trekliansko region. The violators are citizens of Iraq, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, etc, BNR reports.
