The traditional autumn Beekeeping Exhibition has started in the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia with the participation of producers from all over the country. The Sofia Honey Festival continues until September 17. According to beekeepers, the yields this year are good.

Producers with registered apiaries in Bulgaria are about 13,0000. The number of beekeepers has been declining as just a few years ago they were close to 30,000, chairman of the United Bulgarian Beekeepers' Union, Mihail Mihailov, says. According to him, wholesalers sell a kilogram of honey for 3 euros and the difference with the retail price is almost double to the detriment of producers.
