Mohamed Chaaboud of Morocco, men, and Cheboy Jepkosgei of Kenya, women, won the Sofia marathon 2022.  More than 4,000 contestants in the four disciplines took part in the prestigious event in Sofia, including 900 foreign athletes from 46 countries.

The fine weather made for a great result in the men’s event, with Chaaboud registering a personal record and the third best result in the history of the Sofia marathon at 2:13.38. In the women’s event Jepkosgei and Ayele Meseret Engidu from Ethiopia were neck and neck throughout the entire race. The winner came out ahead with a slim 5 seconds lead, clocking 2:45.52.

In the half-marathon Marinela Nineva earned a victory for Bulgaria, clocking 1:17.48.
