"Despite the short life of the last parliaments, every beginning is filled with hope and you have the opportunity to leave a worthy mark in history with a display of reason, civic responsibility and strong will in these difficult times for Bulgaria and Europe."

With these words, President Rumen Radev addressed the deputies in the 48th National Assembly and wished them to lead the country out of the spiral of political instability. He pointed out that it takes wisdom and courage to form a government that will find solutions to pressing problems such as poverty, low incomes, rising crime.

"The main priority in the work of the parliament and the government is invariably to guarantee the national security", the head of state continued. "Today, this means strengthening one's own defense capacity, accelerating the modernization of the armed forces. Therefore, even today, the interim government will submit an approved program for priority investment costs for the Ministry of Defence and a project for the other eight aircraft. I hope they will be dealt with in an accelerated manner and let national security not be opposed to social policy.”

Rumen Radev also pointed out that the state budget for 2023 must be adopted by the end of the year. "The caretaker government is ready to submit a draft law on the state budget," he added.
