According to The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB), the real inflation in the small consumer basket for the country is 45%.

"A year ago, a litre or a kilo of the 20 goods and services we purchase every day - bread, milk, etc. - used to cost 65 leva (33 euro), now we need 95 leva (48.5 euro) to buy them. This is the inflation that people feel in their wallets," said Plamen Dimitrov, President of CITUB.

The trade union insists that by the end of the year workers' incomes should be compensated at least by the amount of official inflation, which is around 20%, "so that impoverishment is curbed to some extent".
