President Rumen Radev described the killing of a Bulgarian border police officer as unprecedented, in view of the fact that a Bulgarian officer has been shot dead from the territory of a neighbouring country. President Radev said he expected the Foreign Ministry to summon the ambassador of Turkey, and that the incident should be investigated by the two countries jointly.

“The group which shot at the Bulgarian patrol has withdrawn into Turkey’s interior,” said Interior Minister in Bulgaria’s caretaker government Ivan Demerdzhiev. “Our Turkish colleagues have assured us that they will do everything possible and necessary to find these people and to bring them to justice,” he added.

“The fence along the border with Turkey has holes in it and is unreliable. We need a concrete wall that is 3 metres tall,” said on his part caretaker Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov for bTV.
