Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint seized illegal currency worth over 500,000 euros in a factory cavity of a delivery truck semi-trailer, the Customs Agency press centre said. A 36-year-old Turkish national has been charged with smuggling 174,950 euros, 312,500 pounds sterling and 390 Scottish pounds, or a total of 534,037 euros. The man was travelling from Germany to Turkey via Bulgaria. An investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.

On 26 October, another Turkish citizen was detained at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP while trying to smuggle undeclared currency from Bulgaria to Turkey for a total value of €143,329, hidden between frozen meat storage containers in the semi-trailer of a truck.
