Great Britain, Germany and Spain are the top destinations for the migration of Bulgarians

More than 314,000 Bulgarians who stayed abroad in the period 1980-2021 for more than one year have returned to Bulgaria. This is shown by NSI data from the census in 2021. 


The top 10 countries to which Bulgarians migrated are Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Italy, the USA, the Netherlands and France.

he largest number of Bulgarians returned from Great Britain - 47,000, Germany - 41,000, Spain - 27,000, and Greece - 27,000. 

Sofia and Plovdiv are among the most preferred cities for living by Bulgarian citizens who returned to Bulgaria.
